Tommee Tippee Steamer Blender – Review

So it’s time to start thinking about weaning and your thinking “I’d love to make my own food, maybe even just blend up what we have, and freeze it. It all seems like a lot to do though. I wonder if the Tommee Tippee Steamer Blender can help?”

Well it can. It really can, and it does it in a very easy to use and simple way. I really can’t fault it which is why I’m giving it five Dads out of five.

Tommee Tippee Steamer Blender – The Basics

Well, you can probably guess this one. It steams food and then blends it. Simples.

It's a great steamer blender!
It’s a great steamer blender!

I could be a bit more descriptive though I guess! In essence you have a plastic jar that you fill with whatever you want (veg, meat, fruit, whatever food you wish) and it will steam the food to cook it and then it will blend it to whatever consistency you want.

The important thing here is you set the consistency based on how long you set it to blend. Set it for 10 seconds and it’ll still be very lumpy of course. Set it for 2 minutes or more and it’ll be very smooth, like your stage 1 weaning by consistency.

The good thing is that it’s all in one container and is therefore simple to clean.

Tommee Tippee Steamer Blender – Usability 4/5

In order to use this you chop up your food, place it in the container and add water to the water chamber. You then set the time for the steamer (there’s a handy book to help you) and set the blend time (again, the book helps you with how long) and that’s it. You just leave it to do it’s thing.

After this you use the provided spatula (or anything you have) and empty the mixture into whatever container you want (ice cube trays for example).

Cleaning is relatively simple as you can take apart the blade from the container to be able to do this.

Tommee Tippee Steamer Blender – Convenience 5/5

If you are deciding to prepare your own food for the weaning of your baby then this is a great gadget to buy.

I would imagine that cooking or steaming your own food, then using a separate blender would take a lot of effort, and then to clean all of the equipment you use too would take some time. I’ve other things I’d prefer to do with my time to be honest!

As such, this is a huge convenience and a massive time saver. To set it all going (once you’ve chopped your food up) takes less than a minute. Then you come back to the finished article. You’d normally have to stand there while the food is cooking perhaps, and then be there while blending if you were not to use this machine. You have none of this with the Tommee Tippee Steamer Blender.

Tommee Tippee Steamer Blender – Quality 5/5

As with other Tommee Tippee equipment I’ve reviewed such as the Perfect Prep machine (here) the quality is faultless.

There are a few things to consider in this element for me. One is safety (ultimately you could have your baby in your arms while this blade is whirring around), another is the material and lastly the look and feel of it.

In terms of the safety it seems top notch. You can’t start the device until it is locked in place. There is a switch on top to turn which locks the container in place so it can’t be removed while it is on. The blade is securely in place inside the container but can safely be removed for cleaning. All in all nothing to fault here.

In terms of the material it’s made from, again there is nothing to fault. It’s of high quality. It’s all plastic other than the blade which is of course metal.

Finally the overall look and feel is very good. No sharp edges, it doesn’t rattle or anything like that. It is very good indeed in terms of quality. Nothing to fault on it.

Tommee Tippee Steamer Blender – Value 4/5

At £74.95 on Amazon it’s not cheap by any means but having a quick look you’re either looking at products on the very cheap end or pretty expensive. We decided on the latter in the hope for an easy to use high quality product. There is a Phillips Avent one at about £85 too to consider, but I’ll let you have a read of that product. There will be others of course for you to look at too.

As such, it is towards the expensive side but does such a great job and is so convenient that I’ve given it four out of five for value.

Tommee Tippee Steamer Blender – Summary

I’ve been extremely impressed with this machine. It’s very easy to use, saves so much time and produces some great food for my son.

On the negative side it is quite expensive but for the convenience we didn’t mind paying that. Also, it is quite noisy when blending which is a shame but for us we just shut the door to the kitchen and the blending part (which is the noisy bit really) doesn’t go on for that long.

Overall I would recommend this if you’re starting weaning and want to prepare your own food. It’s of good quality and saves so much time. It really is so easy to use.

Have you bought this? What did you think?
